Shirley’s roots run deep from her maternal grandmother’s journey in a covered wagon to Oklahoma Territory, and to the 7th great grandfather, a French Huguenot nobleman who arrived in Philadelphia, PA in 1663 and became a wealthy pirate! She is continuing to learn about her immigrant heritage from Great Britain, Ireland/Scotland/Wales and most surprising of all Scandinavia.
Intrigued by the human spirit, she strives to depict character and emotion in her figurative work. She believes that emotion is also found in landscapes and animals of the west. Oils have become her passion as she scrapes layers of paint to reveal subtleties of underlying layers in her representational work.
Shirley’s art is in collections internationally and throughout the United States. She is represented by Dutch Art Gallery in Dallas, Texas.
