Embroidery combines Darci’s love for drawing and fiber art. For her, the process of creating art is just as important as the end result. She enjoys extended projects that grow little by little over time.
“My first year-long project was in 2016, when I embroidered a different circle every day. There were many events that happened to inspire my work that year, from elections to deaths of celebrities to science happenings.
“In 2017, I did a 365 day project in which I embroidered a tiny food every day and gave it away to someone with the agreement that they would donate food, money, or time to helping hungry people. Part of the appeal of this was to be able to let go of my possession of my art, and not expect anything personally in return.
“This year has been the year of building my portfolio and really focusing on miniature embroidery in whatever form, from portraits to animals to famous artwork. I am always finding new ways to challenge myself and enjoy it immensely.”
