"I find a simultaneous harmony going back and forth between working without intention and careful planning."

“I like to find visual solutions and utilize a variety of tools, mediums and applications to transfer concepts and techniques from project to project in order to keep evolving.

“The materials I use help guide my process while searching for new combinations.”

Less is More Outlook on Life and Art

“Being both a graphic designer and artist cultivate an intermix of abstract geometric and organic themes. My work tends to have a primitive and heavily textured quality as a result of my visceral approach but the final result is intended to appear quiet to reflect a “less is more” outlook on life and art. Making art is a way for me to escape the technological realm, contemplate modern living and nature and then communicate how each domain influences another. It is my intention to engage the viewer to utilize the art, fill a void with something beautiful, improve emotional and environmental disposition and evoke a sense of balance and tranquility in the modern world.”

Overlooked Items

“When I take the time to appreciate nature and how it affects my surroundings, I can see so many parallels within my own life and art process. The dynamic array of ever-changing environments and cyclic occurrences not only provide much inspiration, but I feel plugged into the current of life as I explore the mediums and themes of transformation.

“Sensitized by my surroundings, I draw inspiration and utilize materials and objects that withstand the forces of nature. I find that often overlooked items become more intricate with closer inspection and I am especially drawn to earthy hues and textures from weathered objects that possess an austere character. Like the way the sun bleaches out concrete, metal rusts and gets scratched, and water drips and flows. All these sightings are hunted and collected in tandem with my everyday experiences; mood, nature, seasons, design, architecture, music and then surface through my work.”

Fluid Energy

“My minimalistic style is not based solely on reduction, but involves a bit of modification, layering, and subtraction with both a painterly and sculptural approach. It is a physically labor-intensive and intuitive process where I preserve the happy accidents and focus on developing surface structure, form and color variations until I find balance. I push paint, sand layers, drag pencils, rip paper, and manipulate the materials until I find something interesting.

“By exploring and preserving certain aesthetics I feel like I am mirroring nature. I find that working in a style of repetition and pattern to be very calming like the still and silent waters of a pond. But just as nature has her seasons, I have to let loose and just see where I can find a fluid energy like waves in the ocean. Each piece is also a presentation of my ability to overcome some unfavorable outcomes and get through some twists and turns like a tornado. I am truly living and in my natural state and in accord with the primal performance of creating art.”
