Over almost 20 years, the themes evolved and often reflect the distortion and wilding of traditional western motifs, historical events, social and environmental commentary. My work still incorporates western elements but I have reinvented them for my purposes of storytelling. Although I think of this as breaking with tradition, it is exactly in line with tradition as saddlemakers of the late 19th century to this day, reinterpret older designs to create their own style.
In my case I reconnect the flowers and leaves to stems, the stems to roots and the roots to the earth. When seen through the lens of today’s and tomorrow’s natural world they depict the theme of survival in a harsh environment.
